A shared system for consistency, scale, and speed across Bing.

Overview

While working on Bing.com at Microsoft, I contributed to the development and maintenance of the Bing Design System, helping bring consistency, scalability, and efficiency to how teams built experiences across surfaces.

The problem

Bing's interface was evolving quickly, and teams were working on overlapping features. A centralized design system was needed to reduce visual inconsistencies and improve speed to production.

What I did

I created and maintained shared libraries in Figma: reusable components, tokens, variables, and interactive prototypes. Designers could work faster and stay consistent with product guidelines.

I worked with product and design partners through regular system reviews. Those sessions kept teams aligned with the standards and gave us feedback to keep improving the system.

I used Figma prototyping to show how menus, inputs, and navigation should behave, so specs were clearer for engineers.

Design tokens and Figma variables supported theming and dark mode with little extra work, and made it easier for new teams to plug into the system.

One of the key components was the fact card: concise, verified information from authoritative sources inside search results. It needed to be distinct from organic results and still feel like Bing. The card uses the type scale and color system, with a light border and background so fact snippets separate from organic results.

“Working on the Bing Design System taught me how small design decisions can have a big impact when applied at scale, and how important collaboration is when building tools for others.”
